The organizing committee, the Tahitian Surfing Association and the Popoti Surf Club, is most proud to receive you in the city of Papara for the 2004 Tahiti World Kneeboard Horue. This event is sanctioned by the International Surfing Association (ISA) and Kneeboard Surfing International (KSI).
It is a great honor having the ISA recognition for this event and a great opportunity for the Tahitian surfers to develop sports and cultural exchanges with surfers from all countries.

The venue is Taharuu beach breaks at Popoti bay, in the city of Papara, it is one of the famous surf spot on the west coast of the island of Tahiti. At 40 kilometers from the Faaa International airport the city of Papara is one of the largest district of the island with a population of over 10000 inhabitants. There is an average quality of rights and lefts with sizes : 3 to 8 feet (but it can be bigger). A large black sand beach provide perfect site for surf contest.
 

EVENT SCHEDULE

 

June 23-27th Arrival days, Intended arrival is required for teams and individual competitors.
June 27th AM Event meetings: The contest coordinator in conjunction with the contest director will hold the meeting prior the first day contest,June 28th. All competitors are requested to attend.
PM: 15h00 Official Opening Ceremony
June 27th 2004 PM : all competitors will parade on the contest site with their national flag, Hookipuu ceremony for ocean celebration - please bring some ocean from your home break! Traditional folkloric dances, Live concert with famous local artists, cocktail of “Bienvenue"& free drinks for all contestants and officials.
June 28th AM: Competitors/Judges meeting followed by: FIRST DAY CONTEST
June 29th AM: HALF DAY CONTEST, start from 8hoo to 12hoo
PM: Walk in the PARADE in Papeete for the Polynesian autonomy day celebration (don't forget your national flag)
June 30th to 8th July CONTEST DAYS
July 9th AM GRAND FINAL - all categories
PM AWARD CEREMONY and AWARD BANQUET
July 10th Closing ceremony, garden party, LIVE CONCERT - REGGAE on the beach

  THE COMPETITION


ISA World Kneeboard titles
Age groups: Minimum 4 competitors per age group to compete for a world title
Age group to be as per ISA rulebook only/ All previously decided age group definitions to be over-ruled.
Age divisions to be straight knockout format progression

OPEN Division
The Open division is the only World title to be moneyed.
1st prize: USD 5000$
2nd prize: USD 2500$
3rd prize: USD 1500$
4th prize: USD 100$
Open division to surf 2nd chance repercharge as per ISA rulebook.
A surfer competing in more than one division is required to pay an Entry fee for each division entered.
HEATS
Heats to be four man and of 15-20 minutes duration depending upon conditions and decided by contest director and head judge in consultation.

A surfer competing in more than one division is required to pay an Entry fee for each division entered.

  COMPUTER SCORING SYSTEM The computer scoring system will be provide by Mr Steeve RIA from New Zealand Surfing. All scores and heat draws will be on website
  JUDGES PANEL All judges will be selected only after application to the ISA & KSI.
A selection panel will determine the judges panel based on prior ISA and ASP event experience.

  ACCOMODATIONS: The organization committee offers two types of accomodation : families hosting and Dormitory
Families hosting including individual bed, breakfast and dinner cost: USD 25$ per day per persons
Dormitory at the Papara college including individual bed, breakfast and dinner cost: USD 15$ per day per persons, 24 hours security service
Lunch, snacks and meals on the contest site
There is free buses everyday to and from the beach from 7:00AM to 6:00PM

  GROUND TRANSPORTATION The organizing committee will provide buses for teams to/from airport and lodges.
All individuals competitors will contact the organizing committee at the Tahiti Manava visitors bureau’s desk at the airport when arrival.
Car rental at the Airport - Special rate for contestants at EUROPCAR
Intended arrival is required for teams and individual competitors.
     
  PASSPORTS AND VISAS All participants should contact their local embassy in order to check what documents are necessary for each to enter in Tahiti.
  ATA CARNET (Temporary Admission Authorisation) All competitors must check at their chambers of commerce for document concerning the temporary Admission authorisation. Those document must be presented at the custom at Faaa International Airport for easy entry for boards and sports equipment . All equipment must be taken back by competitors. A fine of USD 300$ is applicable for loose surfboards by local custom.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES
During your stay here in Tahiti you will have the opportunity to share the cultural aspect of the Tahitian way of life. July is the month of the festival and many event are organized by the city, like canoe races, stone lifting , folkloric chant and dances contest. Everybody is invited to participate with the population and the city of Papara for all locals event.
Nearby the contest site there is an international golf course.
1 Day excursion in the Taharuu valley - Tribal Tattoo Show
The 29th June is a national day for all Polynesian. This year our government will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Polynesian autonomy government status. All participants are invited to parade in the city of Papeete with their national flag and participate in culturally appropriate manner.

AWARD CEREMONY

All trophies will be given on the contest site. Special trophies handcraft made by local artisans.
The official award banquet will be held on the festival site at the city hall of Papara.

Banquet cost per persons USD 35$ including banquet dinner (Imperial Chinese 7 plate menu), few drinks, 8 persons per table. It is the event party. Registration on contest site
Non dinner entry is USD 20$ including entry plus one drink.

CLOSING CEREMONY
A garden party is offered by the mayor of the city of Papara and the city council. Ceremony of Diplomas

  COMMUNICATIONS Mobile phone: you will be able to use your private mobile phone here in Tahiti. Be sure the frequency is 900 MHZ to 1800 MHZ. , ask your local providers to activate the Roaming service in your country before departure.
E.card: A Cyberbus equiped with 8 workstation is provided by the organizing committee. You will be able to send e.card of the event from the contest site. Prices for e.card to be checked on site.

Climate: July is the cold/wet season for Tahiti but it’s still very cool weather
